Acton Gardens Outdoor Cinema

On Saturday 7th September, the Regeneration & Communities team held an outdoor cinema event in Acton Gardens to close out the Summer Holidays!

Myself and Molly Purcell worked with Skylight Cinemas to bring the Big Screen to Central Plaza in Acton Gardens, showing Disney Pixar’s Elemental.  As part of our commitment to include the local community, the film was chosen by Acton Gardens Residents themselves via a survey monkey poll and the event was promoted on Eventbrite, on our website and via mailchimp, with all 200 available free tickets sold!

Whilst the grey skies threatened to rain on our parade, it just about held off and it turned out to be a fantastic day! (Black binbags supplied by our wonderful caretaking team also ensured there were no wet bums!) We hired Moji Entertainment to provide tasty cinema snacks including popcorn, candyfloss and slush, which went down a treat too.

In addition to volunteers from L&Q, a few of our Acton Gardens Community Board Members came down to help out on the day to spread the work of the board and give back to their community. Volunteers from St Johns Ambulance attended as well PCs from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, who engaged with residents and did free bike marking.

It was great to see residents staying in Central Plaza after the event, playing in the park and getting to know their neighbours, and we’ve already had really positive feedback from residents who are calling for more outdoor cinema screenings!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the delivery of the event and volunteered on the day to make it happen – particular thanks to Daniel Paulino-Arroyo, Natasha Sheperd and Shakira Henry who made the trip over to Acton Gardens to support the event, donning the high-vis and bringing their positive energy with them to ensure that residents had a great time and that the event ran smoothly.

In the words of one resident - "It was a vibe"!
